Geography of Ujjain
The land of Mahakal, Ujjain also refereed as Ujjaini is an ancient town of India. The busy yet beautiful city of Ujjain is located in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. The city on the bank of holy Kshipra River has a distinct geographical location. The holy city is spread across an area of 152 km2. The city is the administrative unit of Ujjain district. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the city.

Demography of Ujjain
According to the 2011 census the city of Ujjain had a population of 1.98 million. The city has seen a 16.1 percent growth in the population compared to 2001. The average literacy rate in 2011 in the city is 72.34 per 100 as compared to 70.86 in 2001.
Rivers in Ujjain

Kshipra river washes the shores of Holy City of Ujjain. The river arises in the Vindhya Range north of Dhar, and stream southwards to the Malwa Plateau to unite the Chambal River. It is regarded as one of the sanctified rivers in Hinduism. The holy city of Ujjain is located on its east bank. Kumbh Mela festival which takes place every 12 years makes Ujjain the most happening city and takes place on the city's highly structured waterside ghats. The city also hosts annual celebrations of the river goddess Kshipra. There are numerous Hindu shrine by the side of the river Kshipra. The river is a perennial river which discontinues flowing few months after the monsoon season.
Climate of Ujjain
Ujjain enjoys humid sub-tropical climate prevalent in most parts of North Central India. Summer begins in the end of March and continue till June-July. Temperature can mount to 45°C in May. In addition, warm winds may propel in the noon adding some uneasiness. The typical weather of the city is implicit for its pleasing and enjoyable feel. The climate is not that intense that people can’t endure The monsoon arrives in the mid of June and persists till early October. About 35 inches of rainfall is usual in this period all though during peak rainfall it reaches 40 inches. Winter begins from November and continues till March. The temperature during winter may fall upto 9-10 °C.
